Can a Hindu boy and Muslim girl marry in India?

In India, it is legal for a Hindu boy and a Muslim girl to get married. The marriage would be considered a civil marriage, and it would be governed by the Special Marriage Act of 1954. Under this Act, any two people, regardless of their religion, can get married as long as they meet the requirements for marriage under Indian law. The Act requires that both parties be at least 21 years of age, and that they give their free and voluntary consent to the marriage. It also requires that the parties not be related to each other within the prohibited degrees of relationship as defined by the Act. If the parties meet these requirements and follow the procedure for registering their marriage under the Act, their marriage will be considered valid in India.
